Gryffindor Uniform

Okay, here we go.

Gryffindor Robe-You can make your own here. Right here, you can get a good quality $25 one (this is the one I have), or right here is the expensive replica. Your choice.

White Button Up Shirt-It can be long sleeve or short sleeve, you can't tell with the sweater on. Here is a girl's uniform one, a boy's dress shirt works well too.

V-Neck Pullover/Cardigan Sweater-A grey (years 1-2) or black (all the rest) one. Here is a boy's grey one, it is the most similar one I could find to the grey ones in the movies. Here is a girl's black one. If you go to one of the above links, you should be able to find a cardigan using the navigation.

Gryffindor Tie-Here is a thick striped one like they used in the first two movies. Here is the tie that was used in all the rest.

Pleated Skirt-Again, grey or black depending on the movie. It doesn't really matter if you mix them up and have a black sweater and grey skirt or grey sweater and black skirt. Click here or here for two good skirts, that both come in grey and in black.

Socks/Tights-Also grey or black. Grey knee socks for first two, black tights for the rest. White knee socks are okay too. Here are some grey knee socks (they also come in other colors). Black tights are easy to find, you can get them pretty much anywhere that sells clothes.

Black Mary Janes/Flats-Mary Janes are what Hermione wears in all the movies, but flats are okay too. Here are some Mary Janes. Black flats are easy to find. Most stores have them.

Hermione Essentials

Here are some things you have to have as Hermione.

1. Lots and lots of notebooks. To draw, write, take notes on interesting stuff, observe other people's actions, etc. You cannot have enough notebooks, they just fill up too fast.
2. A Gryffindor robe. Scratch that, the entire Hogwarts uniform. I know I already posted a full list, but that was a while back. I promise my next post will be the full list along with places to get stuff.
3. A Gryffindor/Hogwarts t-shirt. There are a ton of different ones out there, they shouldn't be too hard to find.
4. A first aid kit. Hermione is always prepared. Bring it on all trips. MAKE SURE you bring it when you go hiking.
5. A dictionary. A children's one is okay, in third grade we all got free ones, but eventually you should graduate to a full Webster's one. Get the app on your device. (smart phone, iPod touch, Kindle Fire, iPad, tablet, etc.)
6. A Gryffindor scarf and if you want, a beanie. Keep yourself warm in house style. You could knit them yourself, if you wanted.
7. Pink fluffy bathrobe. It doesn't necessarily have to be pink, but the one Hermione wears in the first book is.
8. A library card. Duh.

Hermione Quotes

Just a little extra inspiration.

"At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to buy their way in. They got in on pure talent."

"If being good at Divination means I have to pretend to see death omens in lumps of tea, I'm not sure I'll be studying it much longer!"

"Just because you have the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have."

"Just because it's taken you three years to notice, Ron, doesn't mean no one else has spotted I'm a girl!"

"Books! And cleverness! There are more important things... friendship and bravery."

"I've learned all the course books by heart, of course, I just hope it'll be enough."

"Mudblood, and proud of it!"

"Twitchy little ferret, aren't you, Malfoy?"

"McLaggen makes Grawp look like a gentleman!"

"Imagine losing fingernails, Harry! That really puts our sufferings into perspective, doesn't it?"

"If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us, too!"

"I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could have been killed-or worse, expelled. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to bed."

"No, I'm not! I'm hoping to do some good in the world!"

"You said to us once before there was time to turn back if we wanted to. We've had time, haven't we?"

How to Clean Your Room in Under 20 Minutes

This is good if you want to spend minimum time cleaning your room, or maybe if you have people coming over and your room is a disaster.

1. Pick up all dirty clothes and put them in the hamper. You will be surprised about how much this does, especially if you have tons of clothes on your floor. This should take about 1 minute.
2. Go around your room and collect anything that belongs somewhere else in the house. Set everything aside. This should take about 2 minutes.
3. Next go around your room and collect anything (clean clothes, books, toys, etc.) that is out of place or you would like to move, then put everything away. This should take around 4 minutes.
4. Pick up trash and put it in a bag, to be thrown away later, or directly in the trash. It may take anywhere from 1-3 minutes.
5. Make your bed, if it is not made already. It should be cleared off by the previous steps. This should take about 2-3 minutes, depending on how much bedding, pillows and stuffed animals you have. Make sure your stuffed animals are neatly arranged.
6. Vacuum your room. This takes around 3-5 minutes.
7. If you have time (or you can), dust. If you don't, do it later. This takes about 2-3 minutes.
8. Finally, throw your trash away if you haven't already, and return anything that belongs somewhere besides your room to where it belongs. These are things you can do when people are arriving, because as long as they are out of your room, your room is technically clean.

If you are ever running short on time (as in people are supposed to start arriving in 3 minutes or something, not you just don't feel like cleaning anymore), as a last resort, shove stuff in your closet, and if you have a bed skirt, under your bed. Just make sure you actually put it away later. Dust and vacuum every week or so, Saturday is a good day to clean your room. Get rid of useless stuff every so often, it just clutters up your room.

This is why you get rid of clutter. You don't want your room to end up like this!

How to Keep a Clean Room

Keeping your room clean is an essential part of being like Hermione.

1. When you get something out, put it away right after you are done with it. Otherwise you have a big load of stuff to clean up when you actually have time to clean it all up. It saves time to put it away right after you are done with it, rather than waiting and having to clean it all up at once.
2. Always make your bed. Your room will never look clean no matter how neat the rest of it is, if your bed isn't made.
3. Have a trashcan. You need to be able to throw things away immediately, so trash doesn't end up on your floor or under your bed. Make sure you empty your trash when it gets full.
4. Keep everything organized in bins. Having everything jumbled together weirdly just might look just as clean, but causes a lot of hassle in the end. Organization is important.
5. Throw things away regularly. Useless clutter gathers quickly. You might have a problem with letting things go. If you discover something that you are tempted to keep, just ask yourself if you actually remembered it existed before you found it, and when could you use it, anyway?
6. Get a laundry hamper. That is your main weapon against throwing your dirty clothes on the floor. When you take something off, put it in the hamper. When it gets full or you run out of things to wear, wash your clothes.

That is all I really can tell you, next I will post on cleaning your room quickly.

42. About Average by Andrew Clements

46. Confetti Girl by Diana Lopez

Happy Birthday Hermione!

Today, September 19, is Hermione Jean Granger's birthday! She was born in 1979 and is now turning 36. Happy Birthday to our favorite know-it-all!

How to Make Your Room Like Hermione's (Simple Things)

The last part was about large, time consuming things. This part is about simple things you can do in fairly little time, with minimum money spent.
1. Keep your room clean. More details to come.
2. Display every single book you have. Don't hide any in baskets, put them on shelves. A good idea is to alphabetize your books by author, it keeps them organized and easy to find. Put any library books on shelves, but away from books you own so they don't get mixed up.
3. Make sure you have a working clock in your room. It could be a digital alarm, or a small silver analog that sits on your bookshelf. Or it could be both.
4. Keep lotion, hand sanitizer, and lip balm at your disposal. Put them on your nightstand, maybe.
5. There are three wizarding books that have been published: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. You can probably find them at your library, or you could buy them. I like this set at Amazon. Keep these books on your nightstand, or you could put them with the rest of your books to add a wizarding touch.
6. It's not a must, but you could add select Halloween decorations. I know that right now, they just put them in stores although you can get them online year-round. Add a small cauldron maybe, or a witch's hat. Some Halloween decorations can have Harry Potter-ish effects.
7. If you want to go way above and beyond, get a cat. One that is orangish or has a squashed looking face is preferable, although any cat would do. You could also get a cat they've had for a long time but nobody wanted. That's what Crookshanks is.
8. Hang up your Gryffindor pride! You can find banners for cheap online, or you could put up posters. In the Chamber of Secrets movie, Harry has his Gryffindor tie tacked to the wall. You could even just print out the Gryffindor crest and tape it up in your room. Anything is good.

If you have any ideas for making your room like Hermione's (complete redecoration or simple things) please comment and tell me, and I will add!

How to Make Your Room Like Hermione's (Complete Redecoration)

I think that your room being like Hermione's is very important. This entry will come in two parts-complete redecoration (which is this one), and simple things.

1. Paint the walls a soft, light color. In the movie of DH 2, Hermione's room is depicted as a light, airy space with lots of books, and the color theme was lavender and pale blue (see picture below). A light blue, purple, or pink will do, if not white.
2. Have a cozy bed. Choose whatever size you want, and get a pretty comforter, plain colors and patterns are good, as well as florals. Add one or more throw pillows (I like this one) and maybe an extra blanket.
3. Get a desk. A desk is essential. Store supplies such as notebook paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, and sticky notes in it as well as supplies for projects, like cardstock, markers, poster paints and brushes, stencils, and stickers. You could also add art supplies, like oil pastels, colored pencils, watercolors, brushes, felt tip markers, and anything else.
4. Stick to white furniture. It adds an airy, peaceful feeling as well as pale colors and pastels.
5. BOOKSHELVES. It doesn't matter if they're wall mounted or sit on the ground, you need bookshelves. Books too, are of course important. You can display your collection of books (which I hope is very large) along with other knick-knacks like figurines, trophies, piggy banks (or other banks-I have a cupcake one) and photographs.
6. Have a memo/inspiration board. It can be a cork board, magnet board, or one of those things with the criss-crossed ribbon. Put up photos, quotes, birthday cards, pins, scraps of fabric, drawings, stickers, anything. You might want several boards.

Websites

I thought it might be helpful to post a list of good websites, so here are some to sign up for or check out.

1. WikiHow. I know I have said this before, but honestly, it's great.
2. Pinterest. It has great ideas about pretty much everything.
3. Khan Academy. If you don't already do this for school, sign up immediately! It's a free math website, with videos and skills. You could probably teach yourself math with it. You can also learn about topics like science, art, economics, and how to program.
4. You will definitely want a Google account! With a Google account you have access to Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, and more great apps.
5. Free Rice. It's a website that will help teach you vocabulary while donating rice to help end hunger.
6. Scratch. Learn to program using puzzle like pieces. Super simple, but I have seen really awesome games made on Scratch.
7. Duolingo. It is a free website that can teach you one of many different languages.

For more websites like these, just Google search something like "smart websites" or "websites that make you smarter."

Ten More Tips

Well, my first ten tips couldn't cover everything, so here are ten more!
1. Participate in class. And, I mean. really participate. When your teacher asks a question, shoot your hand as fast as possible and as high as it will go without standing up. Of course only raise your hand when you know the answer. Ask questions when you don't understand.
2. Always overachieve. For example, if you do Khan Academy (if you don't, get an account immediately, more details to come), do twenty more minutes or three more skills than you are supposed to. And finish it fast, too!
3. Try other activities. Be well rounded in all sorts of activities. A sport (soccer, tennis, basketball, gymnastics, etc.), an art (art, drama, dance, music, etc.), or school related club (Math or Science Olympiad, Student Council, etc). Take advantage of any electives you have, too. Try learning a different language, programming, painting. As long as you like it, it's good.
4. Always take notes. Have a notebook for every class, even if it doesn't say so on the supply list. Look over your notes before a test. If you like to overachieve (but of course you do, if you read #2), get a separate notebook (a multi subject is good, for different topics) for taking notes on nonfiction you read.
5. Always be on time, or even better early, to everything. School, parties, other activities, everything.
6. Write. Yes, reading is important, but so is writing. You could write a biography about someone, and essay (like because of your own free choice, not for school), or a story. Writing helps expand your imagination.
7. Eat healthy. Smoothies, salads, and sandwiches are all good. Keep candy, desserts, and salty snacks to a minimum. Eat from the food pyramid, make sure sure you are getting protein (meats, peanut butter, beans) oils (nuts), dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese), and most importantly, lots of fruits and veggies!
8.  It's okay to be a bag lady. Hermione is always prepared. A few things I think you should always carry in your backpack or purse are band-aids, some sort of lip balm, lotion, hand sanitizer, hair ties, and travel tissues.
9. Wear a watch. This is very important. It is crazy the amount of times people will ask you the time. Even if you have a phone, you could forget it at home or it could die. Plus, it saves you the hassle of getting something out every time you need to check the time, all you have to do is look at your wrist.
10. Use a planner. Keep one for the school year, so you can use it for homework, plus activities and events. You can't always trust your memory, so write it down.

Hermione Hair

I think there are two ways you could do Hermione hair.

The first kind is traditional bushy hair. Bushy, kinky, curly hair is her trademark. Any kind of naturally curly or wavy hair is fine (if you do have it, lucky you, I have plain boring straight hair). If you have straight hair, there are many different ways you could do your hair. You could use a curling iron, and the smaller the better, because that will make your hair bushier. A waver or crimper will do the job (I recommend the Bed Head Dual Waver, for 19.99 off Amazon).  Curlers are good, and if you brush your hair in the morning than will make it frizzy (which most people don't like, but Hermione's hair is always frizzy). You could try putting your wet hair in little buns all over your head overnight, and you should wake up with curly hair. Braiding your wet hair overnight is definitely good, with more braids for thicker hair. For all overnight styles, I would use gel and/or hairspray (especially if your hair doesn't curl well), and brush your hair in the morning.

The second way is to leave it as is. Curly haired people can technically do both at the same time, lucky them. But for all you straight haired people... if Hermione had straight hair, she would probably leave hers as is, just like she does with bushy hair. If you want, you could put it in simple styles, like ponytails, braids, french braids, and various twists and pull-backs. The most important thing is, make sure your hair is neat, but don't spend too much time on it. After all, books are much more important than looks.

As for color? That doesn't matter too much. I have brown hair, which is obviously best for Hermione, because she does too. Medium brown hair is best, but any shade is good. If you have any other color of hair, don't worry about it. The attitude is more important. If you really want to, and are really hardcore, you could get you hair dyed and/or permed.
