10 Hermione-ish Things To Do

  1. READ (duh)
  2. Sudoku- I really like the game ColorKu, instead of using numbers it uses colors.
  3. Crossword Puzzles- you could get a book of them
  4. Writing (lists, journal, stories... etc.)
  5. Homework- if you have any, if not you could do some school work that was never required to finish, look up free printable worksheets, or do math facts- have someone quiz you using flash cards, or there's also apps you can download.
  6. Code (as in programming)- there are so many different ways to do this. My two favorites are Scratch, and Khan Academy.
  7.  Legos- they're not just a toy! They make you think, especially if you're trying to build your own creation. They used to make Harry Potter sets, but then stopped, so if you want to spend a lot of money, you can get them off Amazon for about 5-15 times the original price. I would recommend getting something else.
  8. Knit or Crochet- Hermione obviously knows how to knit, giving all the house elf hats she knit in the Order of the Phoenix. I personally had no patience for either knitting nor crocheting, and as far as I know Hermione didn't either as when she was at Hogwarts she always knit using magic. It's really just how I saw it, though.
  9. Brain Teasers or Riddles-you could get a book of them, or look them up online
  10. School Supply Shopping-whether it's back-to-school season or not! I  think that buying school supplies is fun. Just having all my papers and pencils neat and organized makes me happy.

Hermione Makeup

None. Basically. When in doubt, use none. Hermione does not care that much about her appearance. Chapstick is okay, and lip gloss is kind of on the border. Here's a basic guide by age:
10 and under: None (maybe lip gloss, occasionally)
11: Still not too much, except lip gloss
12-13: Maybe mascara, in dark brown (and make sure it's waterproof, it's harder to remove but won't smear or run)
14-16: Possibly add foundation/blush (very lightly!) in addition to mascara and lip gloss
17 and up: All of above: light foundation/blush, brown mascara, lip gloss, and maybe add eye shadow (in very limited use). I think eye liner is mostly just very hard to put on, but maybe some brown would be okay. Lip stick is very iffy, you could use some natural looking, but I wouldn't use any.

Remember, when in doubt use none. Hermione might not even use any, but as it's never specified, it's really up to you. Just never use anything that's brightly colored or glittery.

Here are some great YouTube tutorials. If you really do want to wear makeup, then when in doubt follow one of these tutorials (they're pretty similar). They are both from the Brooklyn and Bailey channel, which I love. If you haven't seen any of their videos before, you should check them out. Anyway:

Hermione Halloween Costume

I'm sure you know that Halloween is coming up, and I don't know about you, but I'm going as Hermione! Here is all the basics for a Hermione Halloween costume.

If you are going as Hermione, I would recommend wearing her uniform rather than a casual outfit, so you will be more recognizable.

First some pictures of my costume (they aren't very good, but oh well)
The sweater is black (it's kind of hard to tell). I got it from the Old Navy girl's uniform department. It is very soft and comfy. The shirt is also from the Old Navy girl's uniform department (and FYI it is short sleeved). The tie I got off Amazon from Cinereplicas.
This was a really bad picture (sorry). The skirt is black and pleated. I got it from the French Toast website (they're a uniform brand). The two black things sticking out are tights. They are black as well. I've had them a while, so I am not quite sure where I got them, but I think it was Target. You can get plain black nylon tights from almost any clothing store.
This Gryffindor robe I've had long before I got the rest of my costume. It is thick and fleecy. I got it off Amazon from Rubie's.
This scarf, like the tie, I got off Amazon from Cinereplicas. It also comes in Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, as well as the thicker striped Gryffindor from the first two movies.

I also ordered a time turner but it has not come yet. Here is the link. This year, I have a small plastic cauldron instead of my normal orange pumpkin thing to put my candy in.

Here's a quick costume guide:
First decide what age of Hermione you're going to be. Choose a year around your age. If you chose year one or two, your sweater and skirt will be grey, you will wear grey knee socks (or white if you can't find any), and your tie and if you want it, your scarf, will be a lighter, brighter red with thick, even stripes. There is a good tie on Wild Ties (just Google search it). If you chose anything after that, your sweater and skirt will be black, you can wear a cardigan if you want, you will wear black tights, and your tie, and if you want it, your scarf, will be a dark burgundy red with pairs of thin gold stripes. Most of this is easy to find. If you chose third year, you might also want a time turner.
Pieces for your costume:
-Black Gryffindor Robe-not mandatory, as Hermione is sometimes seen without it
-Pullover or Cardigan Sweater-I recommend only choosing a cardigan if you are dressing up as Hermione in years 3-7, and you can also wear a sweater vest if you wear a long sleeve shirt (below)
-White Button Up Shirt-short sleeve or long sleeve, but make sure you wear long sleeve if you wear a sweater vest (above)
-Pleated Skirt-a uniform one works great
-Grey Knee Socks or Black Tights-Of course this depends which year you chose, if you cannot find grey knee socks just wear white ones
-Black Mary Janes-If you can't find these wear black flats
Accessories:
-Time Turner
-SPEW badge (would have to be homemade, since SPEW didn't appear in the movies they don't sell them)
-Gryffindor Hat and/or Scarf (they follow the rules of what the first two years look like and what the rest look like)
-Marauder's Map (I know this was Harry's, not Hermione's, but it still adds a nice touch)
-Small plastic cauldron
-Bag full of Books (you could include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard if you want)

Happy Halloween!!!
